Q&A: Do web counters have to be seen on website?

Question by skyblueyou: Do web counters have to be seen on website?
I know web counters on the web page are old school. They are ugly too. Can I get a free web counter that will tell the web owner how many visits take place by her viewing the counts on the web or via email? If so what can I use? I know Google Analytics is great but it might be too advanced for her.

Yes, there are web counters that just look like little images that don’t report to the page viewer but you can go tot he site they report to and see statistics on it. I use BRAVENET.COM’s free counters you can set the button when you create it to make it INVISIBLE if you don’t like the formats they offer you.

What is a good website idea to accumulate 1 billion users within 12 months?

Question by bsptlw: What is a good website idea to accumulate 1 billion users within 12 months?
I want to hear from the consumer (you). I’m starting a new website (company) and would love to hear your opinions on what kind of website I could build to accumulate 1 billion users within 12 months? I want to break the record for having the most users… and do it in stylish fashion.

How much do people charge to build and maintain a website?

Question by JP: How much do people charge to build and maintain a website?
How much would someone typically charge to build and maintain a website for a charity? It would be multiple pages and would have to accept donations. It would probably require monthly updates. Thanks!
Thank you for the answers, I’d really like a general quote though. I am actually building a website for a charity and have no idea how much to charge! Should I do it hourly? Completion fee?

Depends on the complexity of the graphics and content. Some people do website design, but don’t do the mechanics of uploading and maintaining, others do maintaining and updating existing content, but don’t do the layout (the aesthetics).

I’m in the latter category. I’ve had some people say “Oh I just want a simple web page that allows people to see who we are and what we do and that’s it”, when they call me three times a week with changes they want to make, images they want to add, or layout they want to change.

Other people say “we want this massive website with daily updated content, an online shop, and a flash-based interactive website”, then never hear from them for three months with content or what they want to say, then they ask how the website building is going…

Websites are like custom building a house. They are all different and the people that want them all want different levels of control (some are “just build it!” some want control over every aspect.) You’ll have to talk with a designer for a quote. A designer can build stuff and spend a bunch of hours building it, only to have the customer want to change details to the point that they have to rebuild it anyway. Also, the caliber of the designer has a bit to do with it as well.

Most small companies outsource to a building company, not an individual (unless you know someone personally). Get out littlegreencube.com as an example of a site building company.

How can I get my website at the top of a search engine?

Question by Jamie: How can I get my website at the top of a search engine?
My company has looked into paying to have our website advertised at the top of the list, and of course, it was very expensive. What determines what “number” we are on the list? Is it the number of searches or hits, that makes our number higher or lower? If so, is there a software out there that can “hit” us automatically via computer, to keep our business listed in the top 10 or even the top 20?

Most major search engines will penalize ‘cheating’ if it is suspected by actually lowering your website’s search popularity. I wouldn’t try ‘hitting’ your website just to get a higher level.

You haven’t mentioned what search engine you are specifically targeting, so I will assume Google. Google ranks websites primarily by how many out-bound links from popular sites go to your site. So I would start by spreading the word, letting people know about your site, and hope that they leave a link to your site on their blogs. That is really the only way to get your website higher on search engines. Of course, this is provided you properly use meta-tags on your pages. No tag-spamming either; that can be penalized aswell.

Do capital letters in the title area of a website get recognized by Google more than lower case?

Question by Sean R: Do capital letters in the title area of a website get recognized by Google more than lower case?
My website’s title has five words. The first 3 words start with a Capital letter and the last 2 words start in the lower case. If i were to have all the words beginning with capitals would Google rate it higher?
Appreciate any input.

Search engines can be hard to interpret most of the time. Well… in fact they can be easy depending on the question asked. In this case Google is believed to use highly advanced searching algorithm’s (which decide on which website is placed where on a search engine). Now, understanding these algorithm’s can lead to a successful website.

Explanation: Behind the walls of search engines is a bunch of code and algorithms which may not interest you so I will not mention too much about them.

Simple Explanation: In basic terms the search engine will display results by:
1. relevance – of the key word or words
2. popularity – if your website has high traffic also known as people visiting your website, your website will likely show first.
3. information included on your website – the more information that is in Google’s cahe of your website makes it result in the top results (there are exceptions). In this case, many web designers notice that when your page gets firstly added to Google your website will appear on top or in the first results but as Google continue’s to monitor your website, your website will likely move down the list.
4. Remember that there are many more rules and exceptions to all of the rules.

Your answer: No Google does not rank depending on capitals, although there are as mentioned exceptions.

If your question is not answer please provide additional information.
-I hope this helps

Q&A: Could changing servers be responsible for the drop in traffic I’ve seen on my website?

Question by fslcaptain737: Could changing servers be responsible for the drop in traffic I’ve seen on my website?
I have a website that gets pretty good traffic. I transferred the domain and hosting to my new account though and the traffic has fallen significantly. The Analytics, which is now beginning to show data, shows that it’s at only a few percent of what it was before.

Is this because of the change in servers or is it because the Analytics data just started coming in? If the former, will the traffic likely rebound?

Thanks.

I would recommend purchasing website traffic! It’s cheap, and it will help you gain the rank you need to make money online!

By purchasing website traffic, you are bringing real human traffic directly to your site, increasing search engine rank, and website alexa rank! It’s a win / win situation!

I usually use https://www.ibuysitetraffic.com to purchase website traffic as they are secure, affordable, and they get the job done with fast results! They also email you traffic control panel options so once you purchase traffic, you can completely control when you want it to come to your site! It’s amazing!

I would recommend trying it if possible icon smile Q&A: Could changing servers be responsible for the drop in traffic Ive seen on my website?

Good luck with your website!
