install goole search to make it easier for yourself and at the same time it helps you rank your website higher at google because unless google crawler visits your website how will it be able to index the search results of your website!

My company has looked into paying to have our website advertised at the top of the list, and of course, it was very expensive. What determines what “number” we are on the list? Is it the number of searches or hits, that makes our number higher or lower? If so, is there a software out there that can “hit” us automatically via computer, to keep our business listed in the top 10 or even the top 20?

Most major search engines will penalize ‘cheating’ if it is suspected by actually lowering your website’s search popularity. I wouldn’t try ‘hitting’ your website just to get a higher level.

You haven’t mentioned what search engine you are specifically targeting, so I will assume Google. Google ranks websites primarily by how many out-bound links from popular sites go to your site. So I would start by spreading the word, letting people know about your site, and hope that they leave a link to your site on their blogs. That is really the only way to get your website higher on search engines. Of course, this is provided you properly use meta-tags on your pages. No tag-spamming either; that can be penalized aswell.

What I’d like to do is get some search related data from Google (for example, which phrase is searched more out of two given phrases, which gender searches a specific phrase more than another etc ) and show that data using PHP. Anyone has any idea how to do that? Where do I get the data from?

There is no way for google to know the gender of the user unless the user has loged in first, and that’s assuming users will fill out their gender honestly when they register a google account.

You can, however, extract search statistics based on keywords, location, time period and category. Google made it very easy for you by giving you data in CSV format. Your PHP script will make a series of http request, then extra data from the response. You can get data form google insights:

Different browsers have different search engine standards. For example, Google uses Page ranking system to help locate the better page for the search desired. So if you want to have a better or higher placement in search engine on Google, you should look for sites with higher exposure and a better page rank than yours so you can be affiliated with them and gain popularity and move up in the ranking system of search engines.
