Hello i am having a hard time making my website were it will fit everybody screen like people with a wide screen monitor and it would center it self i made my website 800 by 600 pixels and i made it in Adobe Fireworks Cs4. Please reply if you can tell me how to do this or fix it were it will fit on everybody screen.

Good question, and the subject of much turmoil in the web design industry these days.

The problem is that PC monitors used to be close to 4×3 (width vs height) like televisions of yore. So a resolution of 1024 x 768 would fit nicely. Now, monitors are 16×9 to simulate HD wide screen TV sets.

I guess the not-too-smart people who design the current monitors think people are going to watch TV on them all day. Not me!

So, what do you shoot for?

First, try to have your website visitor avoid scrolling too much. These days, that means that your pages should be wider than tall. Keep in mind that browser toolbars can eat up almost of 1/4 of the limited vertical space that browsers have these days, because everybody wants you to install their toolbar!

Second, 800 x 600 is history these days. Almost nobody uses it. My web logs tell me the most popular resolution is 1280 x 1024 followed at some distance by 1024 x 768. Shoot for the most popular resolution.

Third, break up your text so it uses columns- nobody is going to read across a very wide page to read a sentence.

I want to ask an online business if I can promote their website at an event. I would like to ask if they would put a “promotions code screen” in so they could tell I got them business. I would be asking them out of the blue so im am trying to gauge how much hassle it would be for them.

They suck don’t buy from them any more. I buy Schick razor just yesterday with some sort of promotion code enter online to win something. First, I can’t find screen to input the code. Then they ask information to fill out. Then there is error and won’t work anymore. Waste of my time.
