What free online resources can I use to measure and compare web activity related to my website?

Question by Glenn Friesen: What free online resources can I use to measure and compare web activity related to my website?
What free online resources can I use to measure and compare web activity related to my website? Things like Google News Alerts for notifications, or Alexa for comparing my site to others. Generally, what resources are out there to keep aware of industry trends, or for measuring and comparing my site traffic/visibility? Specifically, is there anything out there (especially free) for doing this kind of thing for the “new media” industry?

network traffic meter software to measure speed/data between two network cards installed on the same computer?

Question by MaxL: network traffic meter software to measure speed/data between two network cards installed on the same computer?
I need to measure data packets/speed between this two cards installed in olny one computer. One card will output data packets to a fiber/cooper media converter, then to another fiber/cooper media converter and back to the second network card on the computer.

if this is a windows box, you can use the Task Manger, hit control + alt + delete and then select Task Manager, hit the Networking Tab, and you should be able to see those metrics.

Q&A: how does Google Earth measure traffic speeds?

Question by That’s right: how does Google Earth measure traffic speeds?
In Google Earth, you can select the “Live Traffic” option, which apparently shows individual vehicle speeds (as green, yellow, or red dots) on interstate highways. How do they get that data, and how recent is it?
I don’t think they currently use statistical data (maybe they used to), because if you click on some traffic dots near each other, there are different speeds. So they must be measuring individual vehicle speeds. I still wonder how fresh the data is, and how they get it.

they use national trafic statistics and their own statistics (people using google map as GPS send their position, and google keep this Data on that to actualize the stats)
