How can I tell what programs on my computer are currently downloading information from the internet?

Question by Zachary: How can I tell what programs on my computer are currently downloading information from the internet?
My router is blinking which means that a program on it is connecting to the internet, but that happens even when I’m not using my browser. I would like to know what programs are connecting to the internet and what they are doing. I assume its just software updates, but i want to be sure. Is there some program which I can download to keep track of this?

If you are using windows you can check this from the command line.

1. Open a command prompt (Windows key + R), type cmd then press ‘OK’
2. Type netstat -ab

You will see a list of all the open network connections and the name of the process they are associated with. You can google the process names to find out what they are associated with.

Keep in mind the activity light on your router may be flashing due to external internet traffic. Viruses , hackers, etc are always scanning for open targets to connect to.

What websites will tell me the best computer deals of the day?

Question by Joel: What websites will tell me the best computer deals of the day?
There are some websites that just list that the hottest deals from all of the websites — such as current sales/promotions. I am looking for a good deal on a new monitor, but I’d also like to see good deals on other items, like a graphics card.

My computer has 43 viruses. How do I get rid of them without having to spend an arm and a leg for an antivirus?

Question by flabbergasted: My computer has 43 viruses. How do I get rid of them without having to spend an arm and a leg for an antivirus?
Any free antivirus programs that work well. I’m stuck with a program called Security Tool that has played havoc. I can’t delete it. Any free antivirus websites I can go to that are superior?

Can anyone provide more details about a computer company called HEC?

Question by Sarcasm: Can anyone provide more details about a computer company called HEC?
I’ve found a couple parts for my computer build from HEC, but I’ve never heard of them. The info on their website is kind of shady, and the grammar isn’t the best I’ve seen. I found a 585-watt power supply from them on Newegg for $ 25, which raises a serious red flag. So I need to know are they reliable? Can I trust buying from them?

Best answer:

Answer by Karz
Their website:

http://www.hec-group.com.tw/

HEC is a large manufacturer of power supplies, PC cases, rackmount chassis, etc. http://www.hec-group.com.tw/info/

They are not well known because they supply more to OEMs and system builders. With a small retail market, they spend little for advertising and promotion.

The cheap unit they are selling at Newegg is a “no frills” OEM type. There is no SLI or Crossfire support, efficiency is less than 80%, no 8-pin 12V EPS and no PFC; thus, it usually gets unfavorable review. But I would expect it to satisfactorily perform for what it is designed for.

I have very satisfactory experience with HEC’s retail power supplies. I have the 550W model w/ active PFC and two units of the 480W model with passive PFC.

You’re right on target. Website design is one of the leading & most competitive industries out there. Marketing is a big deal, too–what’s the point in having a website, when no one knows that it exists? icon razz What computer services are in high demand? There’s also programming, which ties much into design (if you want to do it yourself), & a lot of people are getting into reseller/web hosting, where you sell website space for people to have websites online.

Hope that wasn’t extremely confusing. :]

How do you exclude your own computer from Google Analytics reports?

Question by Mark Clements: How do you exclude your own computer from Google Analytics reports?
Basically I want for Google Analytics to show me the results of my website, excluding the times that I have looked at the website. I really just want it to start doing this, I really do not care about times in the past. I know I have to set up a filter of some sort, but I have tried that and can’t get it to work. I really just need some super specific and easy to follow steps. Thanks a bunch!

How can I protect my computer in a network?

Question by mathwhiz454: How can I protect my computer in a network?
There’s a family network here at my house, and my dad is a weirdo who has a history of looking through my, my siblings, and my mother’s business online.

Since we’re all connected to the same network, I want to make sure he can’t get into my computer from his. I know there’s a way that can be done.

Can someone help me protect my computer from being accessed anywhere else than right here at my computer itself?

Is it possible to transfer all of my music from iTunes to another computer with playback statistics?

Question by canastafiend: Is it possible to transfer all of my music from iTunes to another computer with playback statistics?
I’ve already done it once where I simply downloaded the latest iTunes from the website and then uploaded all of my CDs to the new computer, but that took forever, and I’d like to be able to retain all of my old playlists and whatnot that I’ve built up.

Best answer:

Answer by RWPinSD
You can go about this many ways and maintain your playlists. the best way I know of is to just copy your iTunes music folder, I moved my entire library to an external HD this was and didn’t lose any info.

Better yet, network your computers and just copy the info over to the new computer

iTunes 7. lets you make a backup of all your music, if you have a DVD burner you can move alot of data on 1 or 2 discs
