How do I protect my website from visitors or other companies?
Question by Robert2309930201091209: How do I protect my website from visitors or other companies?
I feel I have a very unique idea for a website. How does one go about protecting the overall theme of the website? Example: What would stop someone else from making a site like eBay that does bidding and selling with nearly the same format? Can you protect an idea like this when used on the internet?

It sounds like you want to copyright your website. This is the link to the US Copyright Office. If you look under the FAQ section, it has information about protecting websites. It also talks about protecting ideas (you can’t.)

Hope this gives you a starting point.

Do companies interested in buying a wesite/domain use Google Analytics to see how many page views it receives?
Question by skykiss: Do companies interested in buying a wesite/domain use Google Analytics to see how many page views it receives?
I want to know if I should install google analytics. My website has been growing in terms of traffic (I check this through a control panel from my hosting company)
Best answer:
Answer by Eric T
Skykiss,
I would go ahead and install it. It can’t hurt. I’m not sure where your website is hosted, but if your hosting company provides cpanel, it keeps some basic stats for you.
Hope that helps and good luck with the sell,
Eric

Have you tried paying online companies that sell internet traffic?
Question by martin h: Have you tried paying online companies that sell internet traffic?
Buying 10,000 unique visitors for 50 dollars seems like a great deal. Are most of these scams, or worthless traffic? How do I distinguish the quality companies from the bogus ones? considering that the same amount of traffic would cost thousands of dollars using pay per click ads, this seems too good to be true.
Best answer:
Answer by Nick
If it’s too good to be true…it is!
Any company that promises a higher Google PageRank or something similar for low cost is lying and scamming. Even if there’s a high price tag, there’s no guarantee that it’s legit. You would *always* want to research anything you would pay money for – there’s probably someone who got scammed by it. (I’ve heard that www.trafficpowersucks.com is a great example of a sneaky scam that people say Traffic Power does.)
The idea behind search engines is that you find the most relevant responses to your search…not that you find the people who paid the most for advertising on the search engine.
If you truly do want to buy more traffic, I would suggest spending money in advertising, not trying to buy internet traffic. I don’t think the (slight) chance of finding a legit company is worth the risk of the money.
I’ll list a couple websites that will probably be good reading for you if you want to pursue buying traffic. Happy hunting!

How long do companies keep website statistics?
Question by Angel Heart: How long do companies keep website statistics?
Let’s say I go to Target.com and download a picture. Target would then have my IP for the visit and especially since I downloaded a pic, right? How long does Target keep this record for? Would they ever release it?
Best answer:
Answer by Alex
It really all depends on the website. Some only keep them for a few days – some years. It all depends on how many hits they get a day.
Most will not sell or give away your IP address.

They suck don’t buy from them any more. I buy Schick razor just yesterday with some sort of promotion code enter online to win something. First, I can’t find screen to input the code. Then they ask information to fill out. Then there is error and won’t work anymore. Waste of my time.
